Ramsey Canyon, Arizona

Ramsey Canyon is world famous for its outstanding beauty and diverse wildlife, including 14 types of hummingbirds amongst the 170 bird species found here.

Nature walks are guided every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning at 9am from March through October, and other programs for both children and adults are offered seasonally.

This hidden gem among the Huachuca Mountains also features awe-inspiring cypress and oak trees along with 400 other plant species, and wildlife including mountain lions, canyon tree frogs, and rattlesnakes.  Trogons and flycatchers are found here, along with red crossbills, and several warbler species including Black-throated Gray Warblers, Red-faced Warblers, and Grace's Warblers.Some of the local hummingbird species include Blue-throated Hummingbirds, White-eared Hummingbirds, and Berylline Hummingbirds.

However, Ramsey Canyon is perhaps best known for the leopard frog which lives only in the canyon and within the Huachuca Mountains, which was first seen in the 1980's and declared a species new to science in 1993.Over twenty other species of amphibians and lizards along with forty-five mammal species make Ramsey Canyon a wonderful spot for birdwatchers and animal lovers of all kinds.
