Tasco is a versatile company with a familiar name and a history in optics. Aside from binoculars, Tasco also makes rifle scopes, telescopes and shooting glasses.
Tasco is a trusted name, although it is dismissed in some quarters. Tasco is one of those brand names that surprises with its breadth and depth, and those who dismiss the name out right are likely missing out on at least one pleasant surprise.
Some Tasco binoculars
Take, for example, the Tasco Off Shore 36, a 7x50mm pair of binoculars that delivers all the quality you might expect at half (or a third) the cost of a “higher end” brand. With these you will get some finely tuned night vision. They're also heavy and rugged. These also have some nifty features that make them comparable to more expensive binoculars. There is a compass you can use to guide you while out in the field. The 50mm objective lens lets in a lot of light and a lot of sights, for as low as $125.
Another hidden Tasco gem is the Sonoma 16's, an 8-20x50mm pair of binoculars that are excellent for reducing glare. These are light in weight, very easy to use and versatile. The 20x magnification and 50 mm objective lens still allow an impressive 228 foot field of view at 1000 yards. The best thing about these, as it is with so many Tasco binoculars, is the price. These can be had for less than $75 from the right online vendor.
Tasco also makes digital capture binoculars, the Tasco® Snapshot™. The Snapshot™ features a 25 mm aperture but like other digital camera/binocular hybrids this runs the risk of doing neither of its two tasks with quality. Like other similar binoculars, the Snapshot™ promises to be light weight, and it also does not cost much. While we're skeptical of the quality of any binoculars in this category, we bet they're a fun toy.
At or near the top of the Tasco line is the Platinum PM 10x50, a set of binoculars with all the features you'd expect: waterproofing, multi-coated lenses, center focus and a wide field of view (310 feet). It's moderately light weight, too, coming in at just under 30 oz. As is the case with most of Tasco's line, these are inexpensive but they may just deliver the quality you need.
