Monoculars

One can't mention a monocular without bringing to mind a James Bond flick. Monoculars have always proved a handy tool for 007, who always takes out his stealthy little device for a closer look at his enemy.

In fact, real life monoculars cover a variety of stealth mini-telescopes, such as spyglasses and pen scopes. These instruments allow a magnified view of an image through one eye and are preferred for tracking targets, measuring distances and for magnifying the most precise details.

The Golden Eye is the smallest scope of its kind in the world and perhaps a design influenced by the 007 phenomenon. The Golden Eye is shorter than the average person's pinkie finger but weighs less then one ounce, plus it delivers superb optics at 8x magnification.

Monoculars are currently available for all James Bond aficionados over the Internet for between $25 and $300, on average.

Other types of monoculars include:

  • Magnifiers - a microscope, or handheld magnifying glass.
  • Riflescopes - hunting sights that mount onto a rifle and track a moving target.
  • Spotting Scopes - a telescope intended for land viewing.
  • Rangefinders - an optical measuring instrument that determines distance. Used by golfers, mariners, and hunters.
